This surgical department is a center of excellence in joint replacement surgery Our most well-known and routinely done surgery is knee replacement. Knee replacement is an increasingly demanding surgical operation for patients with severe knee osteoarthritis. Knee osteoarthritis affects nearly 19% of world population; 60% of people above the age of 60 years are diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis. Knee osteoarthritis has social and economic burdens as it causes pain, dysfunction, inability to walk or work and disability.

Why we are special?

Knee replacement surgeries have long been done using traditional surgical techniques. These techniques have enormous surgical kits and instruments. They are considered invasive as the surgery has the risks of extensive bleeding, infection and fat embolism.

Our knee replacement surgeries are done through computer technology and using the so-called patient-specific surgical guides. Our surgical department has senior orthopaedic surgeons working together with biomedical engineers as planning for surgery is done on computer software so the after-surgery results can be viewed and practiced beforehand. In addition, we use simple, cost-effective tools for imaging (CT scan) which help in getting the most accurate and safe results. We have a strong medical records’ system which allows for understanding the overall medical conditions of each patient and making full healthcare assessment prior to surgery. This is an electronic healthcare system which is recognized by the International Society of Arthroplasty Registries Since our technique is known as “minimally invasive” we offer the service of bilateral simultaneous knee replacement. This means that patients complaining of arthritis in their right and left knees can have their both knees operated in the same surgery with single exposure to anesthesia, single after-surgery care and the same physiotherapy sessions.

...

Before surgery, the patient has to show up at the hospital for CT scanning and other blood testing (normally takes around 1 hour). Then, the patient is free to have tourism around the city for average 3 days till the surgical plan is ready on computer. The after-surgery hospital stay takes usually between 3 to 4 days, during this period, the patient starts walking and doing physiotherapy.

The Bone and Joint Center is equipped with telemedicine units and tele-health services, so the patient can follow up with the surgeon and the medical staff even after discharge from hospital and even outside Egypt.

Pricing: Prices are determined once the CT Scans are submitted for review by our surgeons, the below are the range of prices, once your case is reviewed you are given a quotation, which will be the total expenses, with no extra costs incurred.
